This course will acquaint students with various methods of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as substitutes for traditional litigation. It will cover the practices of negotiation, mediation, and arbitration, both in voluntary and mandatory contexts. Students will explore the role and duties of an advocate under the Paralegal Rules of Conduct when participating in ADR. They will learn how to select the appropriate ADR process for different legal matters, effectively prepare themselves and their clients, and understand the techniques and strategies to successfully resolve conflicts.
