This course introduces the basic concepts of emergency and risk management, utilizing the pillars of emergency management as the foundation (mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery). Students will learn to identify the difference between structural and non-structural mitigation, develop prevention strategies, distinguish between hazard types, perceive/assess/communicate risk, appreciate differences in response strategies, facilitate stakeholder conversations and develop incident action plans.
