This purpose of this course is to examine the essential interpersonal communication skills required for rehabilitation professionals. Standards of practice relating to ethics, legal requirements, professionalism and communication are emphasized, along with client centered practice and professional boundaries. Standards for record keeping are introduced and practiced, along with an introduction to effective clinical documentation and related privacy legislation. Human relations and interpersonal communication skills are explored, with an emphasis on the interprofessional health care setting. This course is intended to prepare students for introductory field placements and clinical experiences.
