This course introduces the student to knowledge required to safely and competently assist clients with pharmacologic care. Students will be introduced to the concepts of pharmacology, basic mathematics associated with medications, common drug classifications, actions, interactions, and the effects of medication. As well, students will learn about related legislation and the scope of practice and responsibilities of the PSW. The goal of this course is to ensure students have the knowledge required to provide safe and accurate assistance as they assist clients with medication. Special considerations related to the older adult and pediatric client populations will be highlighted. As an element of success students must pass the lab critiques which demonstrate the dexterity and skills required related to assist with medications.
