Applied Math for Nurses

Applied Math for Nurses assists the Practical Nursing student to apply math principles utilized in health care and the nursing profession. This course focuses on safe, accurate drug dosage calculations for various types of medications and routes. The student will learn necessary conversions between the metric and household systems, calculate drug dosages based on weight, and accurately calculate IV administration rates. The exploration of medication administration safety and the relationship between mathematics and dosage calculation will be taught, reinforced, and practiced through a variety of integrated learning activities. These learning activities will facilitate the application of critical thinking skills, accurate math calculations, and drawing conclusions for safe, accurate medication administration.
