Industry Preparation

The focus of this course is to help prepare and assist students in their goal of securing Field Placement. This is accomplished through continuous coaching as well a a series of practical exercises including establishing a resource database, defining and confirming a skill-set, undertaking a SWOT analysis, creating a professional resume, and participating in mock interviews; all directed at bolstering and affirming each students level of self-confidence. Throughout the duration of the semester, each student will be responsible for providing details regarding the progress of their search and will receive advice, feedback and encouragement until placement is achieved. As time permits, alumni will also be invited to relate their work experience(s) to the class as a guest lecturer as this has proven to be an incredibly valuable resource for students about to enter the workforce. In addition, students will also undertake a forensic review of their online persona and make adjustments (when necessary) in order to maintain their professional brand. Note: Due to Portfolio Assessments in Week 13 and Field Placement starting in Week 14, this course will only be 12 weeks long.
