This course examines the causes of criminal and deviant behaviour in terms of psychological and psychiatric theories and suppositions. The course combines theory, research and application. With regard to theory and research, the focus of the course is on the similarities and differences across theories and research findings and on the relationship between theories discussed and criminal justice policy. Areas of study include eyewitness testimony, jury selection, police confessions and interrogations, polygraph, child witnesses and victims, serial killer research, Not Criminally Responsible and other topics.
