Analytical Instruments are used to analyze samples from most aspects of everyday life, including drinking water, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fine chemicals, environmental samples, and clinical samples. This course introduces the theory of spectroscopy and chromatography and the instruments used to perform the analyses. Students will learn how to interpret data obtained using these techniques and will apply their knowledge through hands-on experience in the laboratory preparing samples and analyzing them using liquid and gas chromatographs, and ultra-violet/visible, fluorescence, infrared, and atomic spectrometry instruments.
