This course requires students to learn and be able to act upon police powers of arrest, search, seizure and related statutes, while ensuring that these powers are exercised in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The course will examine pertinent sections of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and their impact on Canadian criminal procedure. Arrest, search and seizure are the fundamental powers granted to police officers in Canada and are applied daily. Students must know and be able to react to situations by employing these powers as required.
