The purpose of this placement is to develop students' basic competence in the OTA & PTA role. This 150 hour placement may be arranged in acute care hospitals, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, specialized clinics or practice areas or long term care centres. This field experience provides the opportunity for students to develop their clinical and professional skills in a practice setting. Students are assessed using the National Fieldwork Evaluation Tool, which measures student competency areas in the OTA & PTA profession. Students are expected to demonstrate the "emerging independence" rating for all OTA & PTA competencies during this placement. This placement is complemented by a seminar class which develops students leadership and group facilitation skills, while exploring professional standards and qualities.
