Person-In-Context/Diversity

This course will help the student develop a greater understanding of the impact the individual and shared experiences of culturally diverse clients can have on the development of mental health and addiction issues. Further, it will examine how these experiences can shape, strengthen, or hinder treatment goals/outcomes. This course will challenge students to consider a larger cultural context, and to think critically about their place in the work they may one day offer clients with culturally diverse views. The student will be asked to consider how their own lived experience, and their personal and professional values will guide their practice and the dynamics they create with the individuals they support.
