This course will develop the student's knowledge related to health policy, its effects on self and society, with an emphasis on interprofessional practice. The student will explore oral health issues in need of policy decisions and the evaluation of policy alternatives. The role of advocacy considering stakeholder groups will also be explored as it relates to influencing policy directions. Students will engage in health promotion activities as part of interprofessional teams through case scenarios, conflict resolution management and practical experiences. Through this experience students will develop skills in communicating the role of the dental hygienist and gain a deeper understanding of other professions.
