Students will learn how to organize, plan, strategize, and navigate through the standard and more challenging daily activities associated with and engaged in by professional artist managers, while appreciating both the art and craft of this profession. Students will examine and determine how one comes to recognize, nurture, develop and promote true talent through intuition and sound reason. The student will also review and analyze the roles and responsibilities associated with respect to law, business management, traditional and strategic marketing, touring, nurturing creativity, and how personal management can add not only stability, but credibility to the career of an artist. Differences in managing emerging acts and established acts will be explored. The course will also look at grant writing, and its importance in taking a domestic act to potential international partners. Each student will end up completing a 3-5 year plan to pitch an artist that can be used as a road map to reach your mutual goals.
