ELCT 3400 builds on the knowledge and concepts which were presented to students in ELCT 2400. This course is intended to further develop the students understanding of the electronics field and common devices which are utilized throughout the electrical industry. The course begins with an introduction to one of the most important diagnostic devices in the field of electronics—the oscilloscope. Use of the oscilloscope is then incorporated into a unit on power conditioning and regulation. Power supply components such as inductors, capacitors, and zener diodes will be studied in detail. Next, thyristors will be introduced and their function explained, particularly as it pertains to their application in the speed control of industrial motors. Field-effect transistors and their operation will be explored and the course will finish up with a detailed unit on the function and uses of operational amplifiers.
