This course is designed to contextualize the child welfare system within the profession of child and youth care. It explores the historical developments of the child welfare system but focusses primarily on current trends and practices. The course looks at the role of the child welfare agency within the community and the legislation that governs it. Students will learn the various routes of entry into the child welfare system and gain an understanding of the child welfare process, continuum of care and permanency options.
