This course deals with the major risk and legal aspects of the hospitality industry, including food and beverage, accommodations and employment standards. Students will gain essential information to comply with the law and an understanding of the associated liabilities and risks. Topics include the legal system, contract law, negligence, liability and risk, the Innkeeper-Guest relationship and responsibilities, legal structure of a hospitality business, and employment standards. Students will work through a series of case studies and participate in group discussions to understand how the law is applied in hospitality related situations.
