This course is comprised of lab and lecture components. In lab, students will learn how to assemble and wire an industrial control panel from scratch using a complete set of electrical schematics. The control panel includes a micro-level Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), fwd/rev motor starter, ethernet switch and associated motor controls devices to operate three phase and single-phase industrial motors. Students will wire, label and test all control and power circuits required in the design. The lab component is complemented by a lecture section where students will analyze the engineering design of the electrical schematics using CSA standards C22.1: Canadian Electrical Code and C22.2 No. 286-17: Industrial Control Panels and Assemblies.
