Industrial Networking

In this course, students will learn and apply the fundamentals of industrial ethernet network design and implementation. The course begins with a comparison between Operation Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) networking skillsets and progresses into the building of a secure industrial network from the ground up. The Open System Interconnection (OSI) model will be studied along with Ethernet IP and CIP protocols as students will apply network classes, IP addressing and subnetting techniques to create and troubleshoot their own secured industrial LAN. The use of routers as gateways will be implemented to connect private LANs together and VLANs will be configured for segmentation in order to emulate plant-based, automated machine communications.
