This course provides students with the fundamental concepts and practical skills to manage and administer contracts for goods and services as they relate to the construction industry and construction law. A brief review of federal, provincial and municipal law influencing the architectural sector will be conducted. The course examines the roles of the contract administrator, contractor, project manager, engineer, architect, architectural technologists, consultants, building owner and bonding and insurance agencies. Students will study a combination of theory and best practices relating the planning of contracts, negotiations, progress status reports, meeting reports, claims & variations, monitor contract compliance and useful tools & systems to streamline the role of contract administration. Students examine briefly the basics of the Construction Lien Act R. S. O. 1990.
