Professionals with knowledge in international business can help organizations understand marketing, law, trade and finance as they apply to the global village we live in. As a professional in this field you may investigate, analyze, administer and manage human, physical and operational resources, as well as complex strategic and practical management issues. In particular, you will gain skills in strategic decision-making, and conducting operational and marketing analysis for business firms on a global scale. Graduates of this program often work on cross-functional and global project teams in order to serve their clients.

This partnership means that Durham College offers an international business program that has been validated by FITT as meeting their high standard of industry excellence. Students registered in our FITT-accredited program have a direct link to FITT and its full range of global trade credentials.
The weekend delivery format is designed and intended for students looking for more flexible opportunities to study full-time and benefit from on-campus learning experiences, without having to attend traditional weekday in-person classes. With weekend delivery, at least half of the classes will be offered in-person on Saturdays and Sundays and students will have the option to switch between in-person and real-time remote learning at any time, without explanation. Friday evening instruction will be delivered remotely through a combination of real-time (synchronous) and self-directed (asynchronous) learning.

When students successfully complete Durham College’s FITT-accredited program and required assessment(s), not only will they receive credentials from Durham College, but they’ll also automatically receive the FITT Diploma in International Trade for completing the equivalency of all FITT skills courses. Once an individual has achieved the FITT Diploma and completes a minimum of 1 year of practical experience working in international trade, s/he can apply to receive FITT’s Certified International Trade Professional (CITP®|FIBP®) designation. The CITP®|FIBP® stands as a symbol of competency and credibility for global business practitioners. It displays a thorough grasp of international trade processes, an individual’s commitment to global trade, as well as their dedication to ethical business practices and ongoing professional development. The CITP®|FIBP® holder has demonstrated they have achieved the core competencies relevant to international business through skills and knowledge acquisition and industry experience.

Advances in information and communications technologies are enabling increased global trade and production resulting in a demand for professionals uniquely trained in international business.
This eight-month program is designed for individuals with a degree or diploma or equivalent business experience who would like to add to their credentials while building a solid foundation in international business practices.
Through lectures, applied in-class activities, readings, case analysis and project-based learning, you will increase your knowledge, abilities and skills in the following:
First-year students enrolled in a diploma program or select graduate certificate program through the Faculty of Business will receive a membership to all eight of Durham Region’s Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade for the duration of their studies, plus an additional year following graduation. As one of the only colleges in Ontario with this offering, DC is proud to provide students access to local businesses at a regional level.

More than 75% of this program is delivered in-person.
The rest of the coursework will be delivered using hybrid, flexible or online formats. Students will come to campus to complete in-person learning requirements. Detailed schedules, with course-specific delivery information, will be available after registration. Courses, course descriptions and delivery formats are subject to change.
In the second semester, you will complete a capstone project designed to demonstrate the command of the international theories and practices taught throughout the course. You will participate in a global business simulation involving the operation of a business over a 10-year period.
Qualified graduates may choose to pursue further studies including Durham College’s Human Resources Management, Project Management, Information Systems Security, or Sport Business Management (graduate certificate) programs.
Graduates may also be eligible to apply their academic credits toward further study through Durham College’s partnerships with many Canadian and international colleges and universities.
