HR Student Advisory Council (HRSAC)

Overview

The HR Student Advisory Council (HRSAC) is an innovative initiative by Durham College designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world HR practices. Targeting our top HR students, supported by our Durham College Faculty and Support teams, this council provides valuable insights and support to Durham Region’s businesses through collaborations with the Community Partners: Municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Trade, and other community partnerships. Students volunteer their time and expertise to help local businesses address HR challenges and queries while gaining practical experience and professional growth opportunities in return.

Objectives

  • For Students: Gain hands-on HR experience, network with industry professionals, and enhance employability.
  • For Businesses: Access emerging talent, receive innovative HR solutions, and strengthen ties with Durham College.
  • For the Community: Foster a collaborative environment, enhance educational and professional opportunities, and support local initiatives.

Structure

  • Membership: 9-12 HR students from the Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and Degree programs, selected through an application process.
  • Oversight: Led by the HR Program Coordinator and supported by the Advancement and Alumni Relations office.
  • Meetings: Monthly or bi-monthly, with both in-person and virtual sessions.
