Durham College is proud to partner with the Schulich Foundation to award Schulich Builders Scholarships to students enrolling in full-time certificate and diploma programs in some of the most in-demand skilled trades fields.
Scholarships are valued at up to $40,000 -- $20,000 per academic year – and support the cost of tuition, living expenses and tools. Schulich Builders will also benefit from opportunities at DC that enhance their experience and assist with their employability after graduation.

- July 31, 2025 – Successful recipients will be notified

- Gas Technician 2
- Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Techniques
- Mechanical Technician - Elevating Devices and the co-op option
- Mechanical Technician – Millwright and the co-op option
- Mechanical Technician – Plumbing
- Power Engineering Techniques - Fourth Class
- Welding Engineering Technician and the co-op option
Eligibility Criteria
Schulich Builders Scholarships are looking for responsible, hardworking, dedicated people who:
- Are Canadian citizens
- Meet college admission requirements
- Are enrolling in a full-time, eligible skilled trades towards a one-year certificate or two-year diploma program starting in Fall 2025
Renewal criteria: The only requirement for recipients to keep their scholarship is that they pass each semester (no minimum average is required), do not drop out of the program or college during full-time study.
Selection Criteria
You must meet the following criteria to be in contention for the scholarship:
- Strong work ethic and character, as evidenced by one letter of recommendation by someone directly connected to you, preferably:
- High school staff member
- Employer
- Co-worker
- Community service organization
- Financial need as determined by the college admission department
- Willingness to act as an ambassador and promote their career choice in the skilled trades and the Schulich Builders program in high schools and community outreach

Scholarship applications are adjudicated by the Faculty of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship. Several factors are taken into consideration including nominations, references, and financial need.
You need to have applied for OSAP or will be applying to OSAP to provide financial assistance to complete your program.
The application needs to include:
- one letter of recommendation by someone directly connected to you, preferably:
- High school staff member
- Employer
- Co-worker
- Community service organization
- Resume
