Gas Technician – evenings and weekends

The Evening Gas Technician courses will give you knowledge about code requirements, propane fundamentals, system testing and troubleshooting. The core curriculum is standardized and accredited by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), the industry’s regulatory body. Upon completion, participants can challenge the TSSA for Gas Technician 3 or Gas Technician 2 license. Delivered evenings and weekends, these courses offer students the flexibility to learn while they work.

For those interested in full-time offerings, Durham College also offers to day-time certificate programs.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Techniques (HVAC)  graduates are eligible to challenge TSSA for Gas Technician 3 and Oil Burner Technician 3 certification.

Gas Technician 2 graduates are eligible to challenge TSSA for Gas Technician 2 and Oil Burner Technician 2 certification.

Evening Gas Technician 3

Registration begins Monday December 7 at 8:30 A.M.

GAS TECHNICIAN 3

Prerequisite: 19 years of age or OSSD

If you want to work in the propane and/or natural gas industry, this course will help you attain the knowledge you need to obtain your Gas Technician 3 license. Topics include safety, gas fundamentals, codes and regulations and an introduction piping and tubing systems and gas appliances. Individuals with a G3 certification are able to work under the supervision of a licensed Gas Technician 2 or 1.

HOW TO REGISTER for GT3

Call 905.721.3000 to register.  Students will be registered into the program then be required to make an online payment.

The CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency) requires you to provide your SIN (Social Insurance Number) for your T2202 tax form. GT3 students need to provide it on the phone when registering.

GAS TECHNICIAN 2

Prerequisite: Valid Gas Technician 3 license.

Please be aware that in response to the COVID-19 situation, for 2020 only, the prerequisite of a valid Gas Technician 3 license has been deferred due to postponed TSSA exams. Students registered for the September 8th intake must present their license to Whitby Enrolment Services by Friday, January 8, 2021.

Students who do not have their Gas Technician 3 license must provide proof of registration in a Gas Technician 3 course concluding prior to the September 8, 2020 start if taken somewhere other than Durham College.

In this course, you will gain the knowledge to work without supervision on appliances rated up to 400,000 BTUs.

HOW TO REGISTER for Gas Technician 2

Note: Due to the COVID-19 situation,  students enrolled in Evening Gas Technician 2 must provide proof of a valid Gas Technician 3 license at the time of enrolment or to Whitby Enrolment Services by Friday, January 8, 2021.

The CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency) requires you to provide your SIN (Social Insurance Number) for your T2202 tax form. Gas Technician 2 students, who have not already done so, need to provide their SIN as soon as possible once we are back on campus, before December 2020.

  • Bank Transfers (takes 3-5 business days) – use your Durham College student number for account number
