Durham College is extending congratulations to golf coach Mike Duggan for being named the 2010 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Coach of the Year.

As the first recipient of the award, which is based on accomplishment in the sport for the current year, Duggan was recognized at the PING/CCAA Golf Championship Awards Banquet in Kamloops, B.C. on October 13. He was nominated for the award after winning the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Coach of the Year Award on October 5.

Under Duggan’s guidance, Durham College’s golf program had an amazing 2010 season including winning gold and silver medals at the 2010 OCAA Golf Championship, which was held in Thornbury, Ont. on October 6.

The women’s team won gold and golfers Kayleigh Kraemer and Tiffany Albath won individual gold and silver medals respectively. In addition, the men’s team won silver in the team competition.

Prior to the OCAA championship, the men’s and women’s golf teams won eight out of twelve possible invitational titles, including a sweep of six titles on the women’s side. The Lords also finished in second place at two invitationals in the men’s team and individual competitions.

Following the OCAA golf championship, the women’s golf team won gold at the CCAA golf national championship in Kamloops the weekend of October 15 to 17. Tiffany Albath and Kayleigh Kraemer also finished second and third respectively in the individual competition.

Duggan has been the head coach of the Durham Lords varsity golf program since 1996 with the college’s golfers enjoying consistent provincial- and national-level success under his leadership.

In addition to his coaching duties at the college, Duggan was also a member of the coaching staff for Team Canada at the 13th International University Sports Federation World University (FISU) Golf Championship in Antequera, Spain in June. He was also an assistant coach to Team Canada at the 2008 FISU World University Golf Championship in Sun City, South Africa.
