We are excited to introduce Omni, the new academic search tool presented by the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL). An outcome of OCUL’s Collaborative Futures initiative, Omni is powered by a collaborative system of team members and resources from Ontario Tech University and 13 other Ontario university libraries. Omni users experience fast and easy access to a vast collection of diverse, high-quality, academic material, empowering them to confidently develop new insights in their areas of study, and succeed in their research goals. Read the press release here.On December 12, Omni will replace the Quick Search Tool on the Durham College Library website, with additional services to follow in 2020.

What does this mean for you?

Intuitive Experience: Fast, intuitive, and seamless, the Omni platform gives you access to the library resources you need quickly, so you can make the best use of your time. Whether you’re on campus, at home, or on the go, your Omni experience remains easy to navigate and responsive.

Why a new library system?

Our current library system is more than 20 years old. Rather than seeking a replacement on our own, we are able to leverage the value of the collective with OCUL. Omni will make it easier to manage and work with our large and increasingly digital collection that includes more than 99,00 print books, 457,000 ebooks, 88,600 journals, 215 databases, 44,560 streaming media, and more.

Why a shared system?

By implementing Omni together with 14 partner institutions, we’ll have the common infrastructure needed to work together in new ways, share expertise, collaborate more efficiently in managing and preserving our collections, and offer broader access to resources for our communities.
