Durham College (DC) is proud to partner with the Town of Whitby on an exciting new opportunity for students: the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award.
Two awards will be awarded annually to racialized or economically challenged students from Whitby who have been accepted into the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training or Fire Prevention and Technology programs. The awards will cover full tuition, not including textbooks, equipment and ancillary services.
The award is available to Durham Region residents who graduate from a Whitby high school.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Students are eligible to apply if they meet the following criteria:
- Are a new student enrolled in the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training program OR the Fire Prevention and Technology program for September 2025.
- Self-identify as a racialized person OR are economically challenged.
- Are a Durham Region resident and graduated from a Whitby high school.
Yes, you need to be accepted to Durham College for September 2025 in the Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training program or in the Fire Prevention and Technology program. If you meet the criteria and are enrolled, you have until May 1, 2025 to apply.

Applications are adjudicated by the Faculty of Social and Community Services in collaboration with the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Several factors are taken into consideration including eligibility criteria and application information.
