Research Ethics Board (REB) Annual Report for 2024-25

2024-25 Research Ethics Board (REB) Activities

For fiscal year 2024-25, the Durham College (DC) REB reviewed 23 new applications. Education continues to be the main area of focus for research studies followed by an increase in health-related research.

In addition, the following requests were processed: seven study completions, six study amendments, and five study renewals. No unanticipated issues were reported.

The REB held their annual retreat on May 10, 2024 with an agenda focused on Indigenous Research.

From April 2025 to June 2025, the REB also reviewed and approved two applications as Board of Record for Niagara College.  This agreement was on an interim basis.

The REB added an ad-hoc member for additional support on applications related to Indigenous Research. Members also presented a variety of presentation related to research ethics for college staff including a presentation in January 2025 to new faculty members.

In May 2024, the REB Chair attended the virtual Canadian Association of Research Ethics Boards (CAREB) Conference.

Quorum was met for all full-board meetings during 2024-25.
