Durham College and The Barrett Centre for Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture are proud to present the Barrett Centre Community Leader Horticulture scholarship for students enrolled in the Food and Farming program starting in September 2025. The $5,000 scholarship supports two dedicated students who are passionate about sustainable agriculture, horticulture, community resilience, food security, and strengthening local food systems. It reflects the Barrett Centre's mission to serve as an internationally recognized hub for excellence in urban agriculture. Through advocacy, research, education, and hands-on training, the Barrett Centre addresses key challenges within our communities, including food insecurity, equitable access to fresh food, economic stability, and the revitalization of land for local food production. Timeline April 25th – Applications Open June 30th – Applications Close July 2nd to 18th - Interviews August 4th – Successful recipients are contacted Eligibility and Selection Criteria International and domestic students are eligible to apply if they meet the following criteria: Are a new student enrolled in the two-year the Food and Farming program starting in September 2025. Demonstrate a passion for their program and/or express an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of leadership in their program We are seeking future-focused students passionate about advancing goals related to healthy communities, education, financial resilience, and food security and eager to get involved in their program of study through opportunities such as volunteering, peer-to-peer mentorship, and participation in campus and community initiatives.
