Community Leader in Sustainable Development Leader in Horticulture and Farming Community Leader in Sustainable Development Scholarship Durham College and The Barrett Centre for Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture are proud to present the Barrett Centre Community Leader in Sustainable Development scholarship for students who are graduating in Spring 2026 or have graduated. Five $2,500 scholarships will support five dedicated leaders who are passionate about community resilience, food security, sustainable development and strengthening load systems. It reflects one of the Barrett Centre’s goals which is to develop a skilled, future-ready workforce in sustainable urban agriculture, resilient community building, and innovative academic programming. Timeline June 1st: Applications Open July 5th at 11:59pm: Applications Close July 13th - 17th: Interviews July 24th: Successful Applicants Contacted Eligibility and Selection Criteria Domestic students are eligible to apply if they meet the following criteria: Are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents Are graduating with an Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, or equivalent in Spring 2026, or have graduated (with a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree) Have applied to Durham College’s Local College Certificate – Leadership in Sustainable Development (only those accepted into the certificate will be awarded a scholarship) Demonstrate a passion for their program and/or sustainable community development, and a sense of leadership in their community. We are seeking future-focused graduates who are passionate about advancing goals related to healthy communities, education, financial resilience, and food security. Graduates should be eager to get involved in their community through opportunities such as volunteering, peer-to-peer mentorship, participation in campus and community initiatives, or who want to grow their capacity to make an impact within their organization. You must meet the following criteria to be in contention for the scholarship: Are a new student enrolled in the two-year Horticulture Technician or Food and Farming program starting in September 2026. Demonstrate a passion for their program and/or express an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of leadership in their program We are seeking future-focused students passionate about advancing goals related to healthy communities, education, financial resilience, and food security, and eager to get involved in their program of study through opportunities such as volunteering, peer-to-peer mentorship, and participation in campus and community initiatives.
