backpack2Briefcase (b2B)

backpack2Briefcase (b2B) is an exciting program at Durham College (DC) designed to help students and recent alumni make a smooth transition from college to the workplace.

Events and workshops will be held at both the Oshawa and Whitby campus throughout the year to offer opportunities for both personal and professional development that will enhance the skills and training students learn in the classroom such as:

  • Networking opportunities with potential employers through job fairs and other events.
  • How to build a comprehensive, relevant and appropriate social media presence.
  • Valuable leadership skills.
  • Financial tips and tricks to support students pre- and- post-graduation.
  • Opportunities to interact with DC alumni for a real-world glimpse at post-graduation possibilities.

These are just a few examples of the non-academic components to help students gain insight, skills and networks that are essential to achieving success as a young professional.

Students and alumni who attend select b2B events will also have an opportunity to win a $100 door prize with draws taking place at the end of each event. Register in advance, or at the door.

b2B will also support DC’s co-curricular recognition program, which acknowledges a student’s participation in campus activities that will complement their resume, portfolio, academic transcript and more. Students will receive one leadership point for attending four or more of the b2B events offered throughout the academic year.

The program is supported by our DC Alumni Association and is offered in partnership with Career Development and the Office of Student Diversity, Inclusion and Transitions.

For more information about the program, please contact Lisa McInerneyManager, Alumni Engagement, at Lisa.McInerney@durhamcollege.ca or 905.721.3035.

Attend b2B events and earn Co-curricular credit

DC students who register and attend four or more of the approved b2B events will receive one point toward the Co-curricular Recognition program (CCR).

The CCR program recognizes student participation in qualifying on-campus activities, allowing students to produce an official record of their on-campus involvement by creating an online personalized co-curricular record. Through this program, you will earn DC’s official recognition of your on-campus involvements and activities outside the classroom. You can use this document when applying for employment and further education. Everything counts – make your resume, portfolio or academic transcript stand out among your peers!

As a bonus, eligible students who earn enough points through the CCR program will receive a Student Leadership Award and this achievement will be acknowledged at Convocation.

For more information on the Co-curricular Recognition Program visit www.durhamcollege.ca/ccr.
