The Career Development Office is here to support Durham College students and alumni navigate the job market.

As this article by Isabella Conforti, a DC journalism student, highlights, the job market for students in Ontario is tougher than it’s been in years.

We hear these concerns, and the Career Development Office at Durham College is committed to supporting students and alums through these challenges.

Despite a competitive market, the team has been working hard to secure a variety of employers for our upcoming job fairs.

Job Fairs are an excellent chance to network, make connections, and explore employment possibilities.

To help students and alums prepare, we’ve lined up the following:

RESUME DROP-INS - get expert advice to strengthen your resume.

PITCH PERFECT: MASTERING YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH WORKSHOP - develop and practice your networking skills. Learn how to craft a polished self-introduction, practice your pitch with peers, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

The office also provides students with resources like the Hired Portal, job search strategies, and career and employment coaching to help students and alums market themselves in a challenging job market.

While the path to employment might feel daunting, opportunities are out there, and with persistence and support, you’ll navigate these challenges.

When evaluating job offers, it’s easy to focus only on salary, but benefits play a crucial role in your overall compensation and work-life satisfaction. Perks like healthcare, flexible hours, and professional development can greatly impact your daily life and long-term goals. Consider what matters most to you—whether it’s work-life balance, financial security, or career growth—when deciding on a role. Ultimately, a comprehensive benefits package can make a job offer more valuable than one that just offers a higher salary.

What do you prioritize when weighing job offers?
