Getting started at DC: Three ways to make the most of Orientation and more

Starting college is a big milestone, and Orientation is a great way to begin your Durham College (DC) experience. There are also other ways to get settled and discover what DC has to offer, from learning about campus services and supports to getting involved in student life.

Here are three ways to get started:

  • Get to know your faculty and program

    Kick off your academic journey with a Faculty-specific Academic Welcome session from September 1 to 4. These half-day events are a chance to get to know your faculty team, learn more about your program, and meet your classmates. You’ll also have opportunities to enjoy refreshments and pick up some DC swag.

  • Get prepared and explore campus services

    Be sure to complete PREP 1000, DC’s first-year experience course for new students, which covers important topics such as registering and paying fees, using DC Connect, and accessing support services, including Student Academic Learning Services, Campus Health and Wellness Centre, and Access and Support Centre. Complete PREP 1000 by September 30 for a chance to win a $250 gift card for the Campus Store or DC Eats.

    Visit the Start Strong at DC Services Fair at the Oshawa Campus on September 9 or the Whitby Campus on September 10. Open to all DC students, the fair is a great opportunity to learn about supports available to you.

  • Get involved on campus

    Meeting new people and becoming part of the DC community is one of the best parts of college. Orientation and the first few weeks of the semester are filled with opportunities to get involved, have fun, and make new connections.

    Check out events such as Campus Cup, Movie Night on the Lawn, The Main Stage, Campus Con 5, and Campus Rec Day. From sports and music to games, food, and campus activities, there are plenty of ways to find something that interests you.
