Sexual Violence Prevention Month

Start:
May 1
End:
May 31
Event Category:

The Public Health Agency of Canada reports that approximately one in three women and one in 10 men in Canada will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. Sexual violence disproportionately impacts equity-deserving groups due to systemic inequalities and intersecting forms of discrimination.

Sexual violence is any act or act targeting a person’s sexuality, gender identity or gender expression, whether the act is physical or psychological in nature, that is committed, threatened or attempted against a person without the person’s consent, and incudes sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, indecent exposure, voyeurism, and sexual exploitation. Everyone deserves to be safe and free from violence.Durham College (DC) is committed to addressing all forms of sexual violence through survivor support, awareness, education, training, and prevention programs. If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual violence, you are not alone. Help is available. Email SVsupport@durhamcollege.ca or check out DC’s sexual violence support services.
