General Transfer Policy

The number of transfer credits you can expect will vary depending on your college credential. The University of Guelph has numerous articulation/pathway agreements with Ontario Colleges that outline the specific transfer credit you will receive when you transfer from certain college programs into certain UoG programs. Please check here (https://www.uoguelph.ca/admission/undergraduate/transfer/agreements-and-pathways/) to see if your program is covered by one of these agreements.

If you are not admitted under an articulation/pathway agreement then you’ll be considered for transfer credit under our general transfer credit policy. Normally, applicants who have completed a two-year college diploma can receive up to 5.0 credits, while applicants who have completed a three-year college diploma program can receive up to 10.0 credits. In this case your transfer credit will be assessed at the time of your admission and cannot be pre-assessed by the Admissions team.

Note: 5.0 credits is equivalent to two semesters or one year of full-time study at University. However, you must be aware that if you are granted 5.0 credits, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all the credits are usable and you’re entering the second year of a program. You may have to catch up by taking some first-year level courses.
