Throughout our consultations we heard how connected Durham College (DC) is to the region. Over 60% of our domestic students come from the region, and international students who choose DC often live and develop careers in our communities. And in many cases, our students return to DC as staff and faculty. The college is deeply rooted and valued across the region as a key employer, community partner and focal point. As we look to the future, we know we have a role to play in supporting our region and the people within it to thrive. Join us for our first visioning session where we will explore all the ways we can step more fully into our role as Durham’s College and be even more integral to the development of our communities and the people who come to live and work here. This session will be offered twice – once at Whitby campus and once at Oshawa campus. You don’t need to attend both – please choose the date and location that works best for you. Additionally, what actions should we prioritize to address reconciliation and create spaces where Indigenous students and employees can excel? At DC, we strive to create an environment that is fully inclusive and where everyone belongs and can thrive. As we listened to voices across our community, we heard a desire for authentic equity and inclusion to be reflected at all levels of the college, including increasing representation amongst students and teams from diverse groups and more accessibility considerations for students and employees. Indigenization is a continuous process requiring each member of our campus community to actively commit to building respectful, reciprocal relationships that contribute to better educational outcomes for all students. In this visioning session, we will set priorities for the next evolution of EDIB and Indigeneity work at DC and the actions we should take next to continue our journey to create safe, inclusive and accessible spaces for all. Date Wednesday, January 15 Time: 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Location: Oshawa Campus, CIR 102 Register now × Attracting and Catering to the Learners of Tomorrow Where could we expand our thinking about the kinds of learners we can serve at Durham College (DC) in the future? What do we need to innovate to make DC attractive for both the students of today and the full range of learners of tomorrow? DC already does a great job educating post-secondary students from our region and around the world. We are a key access point for a wide array of credentials and training that prepare people for future success. We also play a role in continuing education, supporting people to upskill and re-skill throughout their lives. As we plan for the future, we know we will need to attract a wider array of students to sustain our success. There is more that we can do as an educational institution and more people we could serve. In this visioning session, we will explore the kinds of learners we might want to attract here in the future, and innovative ways we could structure our education offerings and supports to make DC attractive to an even wider range of learners across a comprehensive mix of career needs. Together we will explore who are the learners of tomorrow and what bold moves we could make as an institution to make us the college of choice for learners today and in the future. Date: Tuesday, January 21 Time: 9 a.m. to noon Location: Oshawa Campus, CIR 102 Register now × Fulfilling the DC Promise What are our biggest opportunities to supercharge the promise of the Durham College (DC) experience? Student Success Matters deeply to us, and so does the experience we create for students every day on campus. Throughout our consultations to date, we have heard amazing stories about how much people value their experience at DC and the impact of the teaching and supports we provide. At the same time, we also heard stories of where we could do better to ensure that every student in every program has the kind of experience that matches our promises. Join us for this visioning session where we will explore how we can build on our strengths to ensure that our promises come to life consistently across all our programs, courses and through the campus experience we create. Together, we will define how we can support everyone to deliver teaching excellence and the best possible experience, every time, ensuring that every student has access to opportunities to connect and thrive on campus while preparing for future careers. What could we be doing to better support our teams to deliver on our mission and foster an environment that helps our employees learn, grow and reach their full potential? Throughout our consultation, we heard how much our teams care about supporting the success of students. There are countless stories of our teams going above and beyond to meet needs and ensure students can thrive. But we also heard many wishes about how we could make it easier for our teams to meet student needs. Join us for this visioning session, where we will explore where we could use innovative approaches to make it easier and more efficient for our teams to focus their time and energy on what matters most. We will look for solutions that better connect our teams, simplify our work, and reduce environmental impact. We will also explore ways to enrich our culture of caring where we support employees to learn, grow and reach their full potential, while still sustaining the collegiality that makes DC so special.
