Better Together: Breaking Barriers, Connecting Communities Durham College and Ontario Tech University students join together to support your wellness journey here at school. You’ll connect with fellow students through a range of creative workshops that revolve around exploring your identity, interests, and building meaningful relationships with your peers. Our Better Together workshops combine hands-on activities with mental health education sprinkled throughout, empowering you to grow, build resilience and social connections, and prioritize your health and wellness. We hope to help you stay well during your time at school, and provide an opportunity to learn skills that will last a lifetime. Date: 6 Weeks running on Wednesdays from October 9 to November 13 Time: 2:15 to 3:15pm Location: Fireside Reading Room (LIB 200) With the support of Ontario Shores’ mental health professionals, you and fellow students from Ontario Tech and Durham College will collaborate to develop Recovery College courses and will contribute to recreating and redefining the Recovery College program on campus. The courses you create will provide students with opportunities to connect and develop mental health and wellness education that can be used to navigate the post-secondary journey. What will we do? Contribute to creating a positive and resilient culture on campus by helping to decide course topics, content, promotion, and engagement strategies for students. What will we learn? You will learn about Recovery College, Co-Design principles, and the Recovery College process. How to work as a member of a team to design and co-create relevant and impactful mental health-related courses. How to leverage your experiences navigating wellness as a post-secondary student as a source of strength and value to programming at our Recovery College. CHWC Employee Lead: Groups, Events, Workshops ONE MEAL AT A TIME REGISTER HERE This program is designed for those experiencing distress around eating across a range of experiences - from past and current disordered eating to eating disorders diagnoses - where healing your relationship with food is the ultimate goal. Join Michelle Pitman, RSW, Eating Disorders Psychotherapist and Lori Brownson, RPN, Mental Health and Wellness Navigator in this support group, using the power of social connection to make mealtime less stressful and get through one meal at a time, together. Following the meal, Michelle and Lori will facilitate a brief discussion on relevant topics including coping and recovery-oriented skills building. Nutrition Sessions Whether you're looking to improve your energy levels, learn more about nutrition, or simply connect with others who share your passion for healthy eating, Eating for Energy is the perfect place for you! Date and Time: Oct. 30, 12:30-1:30 pm Location: Lobby of the CRWC Neuro-Nourish REGISTER HERE This 4 part workshop series offered to both Durham College and Ontario Tech University Students will explore with students the connection between ADHD and disordered eating behaviors, as well as support students with identifying strategies and techniques to support them on their journey. At NeuroNourish, we are dedicated to empowering neurodiverse college students to embrace compassionate eating and self-care. We understand that each individual's story is unique, and we strive to create a nurturing environment that promotes a healthy relationship with food and self. Through education, support, and community, we encourage students to listen to their bodies, practice self-compassion, and prioritize their well-being. By fostering these practices, we help students build a foundation for lifelong health and resilience, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive in all aspects of their lives. Register Here This group is inspired by a similar group ran out of The Hospital for Sick Children. Photovoice is the art of putting life experiences, emotions, and realities into a picture. This group is designed to give students the opportunity to express themselves in a medium outside of traditional conversation and connect to the greater DC/OnTech community. Each week a theme is chosen by the students which then prompts them to take or use photos from their camera library that represent that theme from their perspective. Join Residence Outreach Coordinators, Louise Stiles, RP, and Lexie Murphy, RSW, for a weekly photovoice group to get to know your peers, touch into your creative side, and learn about how deep one photo can go.
