Ready to apply to a program at Durham College? We’re here to help you navigate the process. But first, here are some answers to pressing questions you might have about process, eligibility and more. Are you an international student? Visit our International webpage for specific information. What are the admission requirements for individual programs? You can see the full admission requirements for each program on the program’s webpage. Some programs require you to meet additional admission criteria including, but not limited to, specific academic prerequisites like tests or questionnaires and the submission of a portfolio. Admission eligibility requirements for each program may vary and are listed in detail in the program section of this calendar. It is your responsibility to complete these requirements as part of the admission process. Detailed instructions and deadlines will be provided when you apply. What are equivalent admissions requirements for other provinces and territories? Applicants whose secondary school studies have been completed outside Ontario must submit evidence of equivalent standing. Recognized equivalents to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) may be accepted if the applicant meets the requirements for admission to the college level, subjects and overall averages required. Generally, the requirement is successful completion of a Grade 12 diploma, except for Quebec where the equivalent is Secondary V. What are equivalent admissions requirements outside of Canada? If you already have a Credential Assessment Report issued by World Education Services (WES) or International Credential Assessment Service (ICAS), contact the agency to see if the report can be forwarded to ontariocolleges.ca. They will distribute the results to all the colleges you have applied to. You will be required to submit either a post graduate comprehensive – course by course report from ICAS or a comprehensive report from WES. This assessment must be received by Ontario Colleges on or before the Equal Consideration Deadline for the intake you are applying to. In some cases, the assessment could take as long as 5 weeks. We suggest that you submit both your Secondary (High School) documents report and Post Secondary (College/University) documents; this will assist Durham College in assessing your marks for entry. To obtain a Credential Assessment Report visit either ICAS (1.800.321.6021) or WES (1.866.343.0070) for information about obtaining a report and having it transmitted to colleges. Additional information is also available at Ontario Colleges. What is selection criteria based on? Selection is based on the entrance requirements listed under individual program descriptions. All applications, and official supporting documents, received by Ontario Colleges on or before February 1 for a fall start or October 1 for a winter start, and February 1 for a spring start will be considered equally. Early application is encouraged. Programs that have more individuals apply than seats available by the Equal Consideration Deadline (ECD) will be deemed highly competitive and ranked in order. The most qualified applicants will be offered seats or placed on a waiting list. What are highly competitive programs? These are programs where there are more qualified Ontario applicants than available seats. As a result, qualified applicants who have submitted applications, and all required supporting documents, no later than February 1 for a fall start, October 1 for a winter start and February 1 for a spring start will undergo a specific selection process. What is priority of admission? For highly competitive programs, students are accepted according to the following priorities: Permanent resident of Ontario Permanent resident of another province or territory in Canada Applicants from other countries What is Mature Student Status? For applicants who are missing prerequisite courses, additional studies, testing or upgrading may be necessary to meet admission requirements. Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Meeting the minimum admissions requirement does not guarantee entrance to a program. Learn more about how we support all Mature Students. Who is Academic Upgrading available for?
