Credit Transfer I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY SUBMITTING MY REQUEST. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT? If you are facing difficulties submitting your request, please connect with the Transfer Services team at transfers@durhamcollege.ca. We are also available on live chat and by phone at 905 721 2000 ext. 7605. I HAVE APPLIED FOR A CREDIT TRANSFER BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A DECISION. WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS? You must remain in your current course until a decision has been made in the case of a denial. Decisions will be communicated through the portal and/or student email account. MY STATUS IS SHOWING AS MISSING INFORMATION IN THE PORTAL. In order to process your credit transfer request, we must receive all supporting documentation. If your status is showing as missing information, we may be missing a transcript or course outline. To submit a transcript, we advise that you request to have an electronic transcript sent to Durham College directly at transfers@durhamcollege.ca. For course outlines, we will require a detailed course outline that must include a course description, learning outcomes, week-by-week breakdown and/or assessment criteria. Please email the detailed outline to transfers@durhamcollege.ca. HOW WILL APPROVED EQUIVALENCIES AND CREDITS APPEAR ON MY ACADEMIC RECORD? If approved for a credit transfer, you will receive a grade of “TC” for the course approved for exemption. The grade achieved at your previous institution will not be included in your GPA calculation. If approved using a previously completed Durham College course with the same credit weighting (i.e. a three-credit course for a three-credit course), your previous course (and grade) will be used to satisfy the requirement of the course in your new program and will be included in your GPA calculation. If you are using more than one course to equal two courses (i.e. COURSE A+COURSE B = COURSE AB) or your previous course had a different credit weighting than your current course (i.e. a four-credit course toward a three-credit course) you will be exempted from your current course. An exemption is recorded on your academic transcript as an “EX” and is not included in GPA calculation. I HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR A CREDIT TRANSFER; HOW DO I DROP MY CURRENT COURSE? If you have been approved for a credit transfer, the course will still appear on your schedule as part of the registration process. The course may be dropped afterward once the timetable change window opens. Please refer to the Important Dates for the specific date when timetable changes are permitted. To drop your approved credit transfer request, follow the ADD/DROP instructions listed here. I DISAGREE WITH A CREDIT TRANSFER EVALUATION, CAN I APPEAL? Typically, credit transfer evaluations can only be reversed if additional information is provided to support the request (such as a second course, a more detailed course outline, etc.). If you disagree with a credit transfer denial, please e-mail transfers@durhamcollege.ca to inquire about what information is needed. Pathways WILL UNIVERSITIES LOOK AT MY HIGH SCHOOL MARKS? You must submit both your high school and college marks when applying to university, however, most institutions will base their admission decision on your college marks. Consult with the institution you’re interested in attending if you have concerns about your high school marks factoring into your admission. I’M THINKING ABOUT PURSUING A DEGREE, WHERE CAN I GO? DC students can transfer to any post-secondary institution as long as they meet the admission requirements of the institution’s program. What will differ from one institution to the next is the amount of credit you will receive. You can begin exploring opportunities through DC Pathways. HOW DO I APPLY? If you’re applying to a university within Ontario, you will apply through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC). You must submit both your high school and college transcript through OUAC. If you’re planning to attend university immediately following your Durham College studies, you may want to submit your transcript immediately following first semester and then submit a final transcript after you finish your program so that you are not waiting until the end of your program to initiate the transfer process (especially if you’re transferring to an institution where the program is competitive or an agreement is not currently in place). If you’re applying to a college within Ontario, you will apply through ontariocolleges.ca. After you’ve been accepted, you’ll need to have your credits evaluated. The credit evaluation process varies between institutions, but will likely include completing a transfer credit application, providing an official transcript from your previous institution and creating a detailed outline of the courses you want to transfer. Some institutions may charge a fee for credit evaluation. If you’re applying to a school outside of Ontario, you should consult the institution’s website to learn about their application processes. WHAT’S THE DEADLINE TO APPLY? Consult the institution’s website to determine application deadlines. Remember to apply and submit your transcripts early so that the institution can begin to evaluate your eligibility for the program. WHAT IF I DON’T MEET THE MINIMUM GRADE/GPA REQUIREMENT FOR THE PROGRAM I WANT TO GET INTO? Admission is offered at the discretion of the institution you are transferring to. If you don’t meet the minimum grade requirements, you should contact the school to determine the options that are available. In some cases, this may require upgrading your grades. I GRADUATED A FEW YEARS AGO, AM I STILL ELIGIBLE TO TRANSFER TO A DEGREE? Each institution sets their own transfer policies and procedures, which includes the age of the credits they will recognize for transfer. Typically, courses in areas where changes happen often will expire sooner than other courses (such as computer courses). Consult the institution you’re interested in attending to learn more.
