Wellness Coaching

What is Coaching?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as, “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” It is based on the principal that individuals are resourceful and full, and helps people enhance or move forward in the important areas of their life. Coaching is an exploration and journey in moving forward in life.

Benefits of Coaching

  • Establish goals, objectives and action plans
  • Bridge gaps between current circumstances and desired outcomes
  • Cultivate self-awareness, motivation, strengths and values
  • Identify perceptions, expectations, limiting beliefs, and solutions
  • Develop critical thinking skills and resilience
  • Shift mindset and perspective

Wellness Coaching at Durham College

Durham College is pleased to offer ICF certified wellness coaches to partner with students and facilitate growth, action and movement towards what the goals and outcomes students want to achieve. Coaching is student-focused and provides a safe, non-judgemental space to explore and work through what is getting in the way of being their best possible self. The more students put into coaching, the more they get out of it.

Students often come to coaching for/when:

  • making life, academic, career or relationship decisions
  • self-awareness and self-understanding
  • self-development and personal growth
  • struggling with motivation, time-management and getting started
  • feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and lonely
  • interpersonal relationships struggles
  • stress management and coping strategies

Like most other Campus Health and Wellness Services (CHWC), wellness coaching is free for DC students. Students wishing to book an appointment can call the CHWC at 905.721.3037.
