Respect Culture Culture is shared, learned, celebrated and constantly changing. It includes attitudes, behaviour, values, language and beliefs. It is expressed through clothing, celebrations, artefacts, the use of language, and it shapes how individuals engage with one another. Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world. In 1988, the Canadian Multiculturalism Act became the law in Canada. As a country, we encourage the preservation of cultural traditions. We continually strive to understand the diverse and colourful expressions of culture across the country at Durham College with the recognition that this is a ongoing learning journey. What makes us great and strong is our diversity and the richness that all the cultures that live our “village” add to the Canada’s colourful and growing mosaic. Look around, culture is everywhere – admire it, celebrate with others, learn from it, and respect it!
