Respect Language

Language allows us to communicate our thoughts, feelings, values and customs.  When we do not share a language with someone, it can be challenging to understand individuals in a particular culture.

Language is constantly evolving – the people using the language change and move and grow, the variety of media through which we communicate is changing rapidly and more than ever, words from various cultures are being adopted by other and used in new and innovative ways.

The best way to use language is to use it inclusively – like avoiding the use of gender-specific words and using people-first language. The most respectful way to use language is to use it in a way that creates a supportive and safe space.
