Respect the Land Durham College (DC) is situated on the Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas and the territory that is covered by the Williams Treaty, and we are thankful for the opportunity to teach and learn on the lands of the Peoples of Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. We celebrate this history in a number of ways on campus including rich programming through our First Peoples Indigenous Centre. In this space students can learn through tradition teachings and cultural activities and have access to an Elder. In response to the Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action, DC established the Indigenization Council comprised key members of the college to provide guidance and oversight to the institution in meeting commitments outlined in the Indigenous Education Protocol. Explore DC’s commitment to upholding The Seven Principles outlined in the Indigenous Education Protocol for Colleges and Institutes. One way of showing our RESPECT for the Land that we are on is to take time to acknowledge the land we are on. This can be done with a Land Acknowledgement at the beginning of college events, activities and classes. We invite you to learn more about Indigenous heritage by visiting the First Peoples Indigenous Centre in CFCE 141.
