The Durham College (DC) Board of Governors is looking for a support staff employee to fill the vacant seat on the Board.
Here’s what you need to know:
Important dates
- Monday, February 14 at 8:30 a.m. – nominations open
- Thursday, March 6 at 1 p.m. – nominations close
- Wednesday, March 12 at 8:30 a.m. – campaign period begins
- Wednesday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m. – campaign period ends
- Monday, March 24 at 8:30 a.m. – voting begins
- Wednesday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m. – voting ends
- Wednesday, April 2 – official election results announced
Election principles
- The election will be fair, transparent and accessible and provide for freedom of choice.
Length of appointment
Three years, starting September 1, 2025 and ending August 31, 2028.
Qualifications to participate
A Candidate in the election must:
- Be a permanent employee who is in the support staff constituency.
- Be at least 18 years old
- Does not have the status of undischarged bankrupt
- Has not been found under the Substitute Decisions Act, 1992 or under the Mental Health Act to be incapable of managing property;
- Has not been found to be incapable by any court in Canada or elsewhere; and
- Has not been declared an ineligible individual under the Income Tax Act (Canada).

Next steps
- Complete the nomination form online and schedule a virtual appointment with Melissa Pringle, Chief Returning Officer to formally submit the form. Appointments are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and should take no longer than 10 minutes. Potential candidates will be asked to provide photo identification during the appointment.
- The chief returning officer will confirm the information on the nomination form and inform nominees of their acceptance as candidates by noon on Monday, March 10.
Candidate video statements
Candidates are encouraged to submit a 90-second video introducing themselves and explaining why they should be elected as support staff governor. The videos will be published on this page during the campaign and voting periods. In lieu of a video message, submitting a photo and written statement (maximum 100 words) is permissible.
