DC Lords Esports partners with Mobalytics

Performance analytics a game changer for varsity team

Oshawa, ON – The Durham Lords Esports team is excited to announce a new partnership with Mobalytics, an analytics-based gaming companion specific to League of Legends.

Durham College (DC) proudly boasts one of the strongest esports programs in the country, and with the addition of Mobalytics, student-athletes will have access to game-changing analysis identifying strengths and weakness based directly on their game play.

“I believe a partnership with Mobalytics will be very beneficial to both parties,” said Lords Esports manager Bill Ai. “I’ve been aware of them for a long time and know the significant benefit they can bring to a program, providing analytical data that will assist our coaching staff in preparing our players to compete on an even higher level.”

Through the use of GPI (Gamer Performance Index), DC gamers will have the opportunity to better understand their abilities across eight fundamental League of Legends skill sets: aggression; consistency; farming; fighting; objectives; survivability; versatility; and vision.

Based on insight into these key elements, DC Lords players can leverage this information to formulate strategies, practice regimens and improve performance.

Mobalytics will also serve as a tool to help identify talented players and future League of Legends recruits.

DC Esports Gaming Arena hosts Ontario Collegiate Rocket League Finals

On August 24, esport student-athletes from 12 Ontario colleges and universities gathered at Durham College’s (DC) Esports Gaming Arena to compete in the Ontario Collegiate Rocket League (OCRL) Finals. A total of $7,000 in scholarship prizing was up for grabs in addition to the first-place title and – of course – bragging rights.

Co-produced by DC and OCRL, an entirely student-run organization, DC’s Esports Gaming Arena staff also offered mentorship throughout the event as students gained real-work experience for their resumés to help them gain employment in the fast-growing esports industry.

Fans were able to take in the action in-person thanks to the arena’s ample spectator space as well as online via Twitch, the world’s leading live streaming platform for gamers.

Although scholarship money eluded them, DC’s Rocket League players did achieve an upset in their bracket with a win over the second-seed Lambton College team, which knocked the Lambton Lions out of the tournament.

In the end, the Waterloo Warriors (University of Waterloo) took first place; Guelph Gryphons (University of Guelph) placed second; and third place went to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

Esports Summer Camps – Fortnite Week

The new annual summer esports camps ran for the very first time at the Durham College Esports Arena. Varsity GM Bill Ai lead the camp, with 11 campers who had a week of gaming fun and skill improvement. While at the arena, the campers were able to meet new people and develop their team building skills as they competed with and against each other to improve their Fortnite technique. The campers also experienced different team building exercises, as well as nutrition lessons and technical skill improvement within the game. At the end of each camp day Bill would elect one lucky camper as the camper of the day. They were chosen by skill that day, or whether they were just the most welcoming and fun to be around. Overall, the campers had a wonderful time and hope to sign up for next years summer camp! Be sure to keep an eye out as more information will be available early 2020!
