Ministry-approved title: Bachelor of Construction Management
Build your future with Durham College’s new Bachelor of Construction Management — Ontario’s first three-year degree in this field. The construction industry is one of Canada’s largest sectors, employing more than 1.4 million people and contributing $141 billion to the economy each year. This innovative program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in this vital industry.
Students gain the technical, managerial, and analytical skills needed to lead projects from concept to completion — from reading technical drawings and using building information modelling to preparing budgets, coordinating trades, and managing schedules. A mandatory 14-week work term provides hands-on, real-world experience that connects classroom learning to industry practice.
In just three years, graduates will be ready for roles such as assistant project managers, junior project co-ordinators, junior estimators, and junior site co-ordinators. — equipped to drive efficiency, sustainability, and innovation across Canada’s construction landscape.

Durham College (DC) offers pre-admission assessment testing to mature domestic applicants to meet admission requirements in English and/or Math. Domestic applicants who are 19 years of age or older as of the start date of their program, and who do not have the required program credit(s), i.e. Grade 12 English and/or Grade 12 Math are eligible to take an admissions assessment test.

The Bachelor of Construction Management program provides graduates with the knowledge, skills and abilities required for in-depth management and coordination of projects in residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors of the construction industry.
Graduates will develop a firm grounding in construction science, project planning, execution and coordination, site management and quality control skills. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills required to effectively assist in managing construction projects to completion. The program provides a strong foundation in building construction, architecture technology and engineering fundamentals and an in-depth study of business management skills. The program emphasizes critical and analytical thinking skills, the importance of interdisciplinary practice, and strong leadership.
Graduates will be prepared to successfully gain employment as assistant project managers, junior project co-ordinators, junior estimators, and junior site co-ordinators. With additional education and/or experience, graduates may be considered for roles as project co-ordinators, project managers, and site superintendents in the construction sector. In addition, graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills to pursue further study in Construction Management or related fields.

Field placement is an integral part of the Bachelor of Construction Management degree. The practical aspects of field work, in conjunction with academic studies enables the student to better understand the methods, techniques and theories associated with construction management and provides students with opportunities to develop professional skills for working collaboratively with people. Field placements are expected to reflect the program learning outcomes and reinforce student learning in the world of work.
