Student Health Insurance

Health Care Insurance

In Canada, the government provides basic health care to those who live here and who meet the eligibility requirements. OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) or other provincial and international equivalents (such as UHIP for OTU students) pay for many health services you may need, such as appointments with doctors, visits to walk-in clinics or emergency rooms, medical tests and surgeries.

Some specialized, non-routine tests and services are not covered such as prescription medication, travel vaccinations, optometry and dental. For more information please visit the Ontario OHIP website or your provincial/ international health care insurance provider.

Extended Health Care Benefits

Extended Health Care Benefits are insurance plans that reimburse partial or full costs of  medical and dental expenses and treatments that aren't covered by provincial or international health care plan. They include access to a wide range of health care supports such as paramedical services (chiropractors, naturopaths, etc), mental health specialists (psychologists, etc), vision care (exams and glasses, etc), prescription drugs, hospital care and emergency travel assistance. Check with your extended health care benefit insurance provider to learn more about your coverage.
