In today’s competitive, data-driven world, organizations rely on advanced analytics and business intelligence to inform strategy, improve performance, and drive innovation. Durham College’s Applied Data Analytics graduate certificate program prepares students to meet that growing demand by developing the technical and analytical skills needed to transform data into meaningful insights.
Through hands-on learning and real-world applications, students build expertise in data analysis, data management, and data science. The program emphasizes modern tools and techniques used to collect, interpret, and visualize complex data, enabling evidence-based decision-making and effective business planning.
Graduates are well equipped to pursue careers in data analytics, business intelligence, and related fields, supporting organizational success through data-informed strategies in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The Applied Data Analytics graduate certificate is designed to build job-ready capabilities in data preparation, analysis, visualization, and interpretation. As data becomes central to planning and decision-making, organizations increasingly require professionals who can work confidently with complex datasets. Students develop the technical fluency needed to meet this demand in various environments.
This one-year program emphasizes hands-on learning using industry-standard tools and workflows, supporting the full data lifecycle from collection and cleaning through to analysis, modelling, and reporting. Students gain experience working with structured and unstructured data, developing dashboards, and communicating findings through clear, data-driven outputs that support business and operational needs.
A strong focus is placed on applied, project-based learning that reflects real workplace expectations in analytics roles. Students work with current tools and techniques used across industry, building confidence in both independent analysis and collaborative, team-based environments. The capstone project brings these skills together, allowing students to design and complete an end-to-end analytics project that integrates data processing, analysis, and visualization.
An optional work term provides eligible students with the opportunity to gain paid, practical experience in a professional setting. This work-integrated learning experience supports the application of technical skills in real-world contexts and helps strengthen career readiness prior to graduation.
Graduates are prepared to contribute to data analytics and business intelligence functions across a range of industries, with the ability to support evidence-based decision-making in data-driven organizations.
Students in this program have access to DC’s Hub for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence for Business Solutions. Known as the AI Hub, this technology studio and applied research centre helps organizations explore the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.

Applied learning: Students in this program have access to DC’s Hub for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence for Business Solutions. Known as the AI Hub, this technology studio and applied research centre helps organizations explore the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.
Capstone projects: Students will integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they gained throughout the program during a capstone project where they will research, plan and execute a project that meets a real-world financial, market or organizational need. Projects will emphasize the students’ expertise with data analysis, analytics, data science and business intelligence/big data tools.
Optional work term: Participating in the optional work term semester is an excellent way to build your professional network, explore career paths and apply in-class teachings to real work situations.
Students in the Applied Data Analytics graduate certificate program will be invited to apply to the optional work term semester during their first academic semester. Entrance to the optional work term is limited and the processes for securing a work term are competitive. Students who qualify for the optional work term semester will be eligible to complete a four-month, paid work term after academic semester 2.
Supports are available through the Experiential Learning Hub to assist students with securing their work terms. In addition, the Experiential Learning Hub is in contact with work term students and their employers during the work terms to help with any questions.

To help students have the best learning experience possible, Durham College’s IT Services department has identified technology recommendations for each program based on course needs and software requirements. While not required, students may want to consider these suggestions if they are purchasing a computer or laptop for the upcoming academic year.

Once transferred to the work term option of this program, students will have an administrative fee of $475 assessed to their accounts during the academic semester(s) prior to scheduled work term(s). The administrative fee goes to support the broad array of support services provided to work term students. These services are dedicated to support student success.
If you are an international student enrolled in the work term option, you must have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number in order to work in Canada. Documentation and instructions on how to apply for a co-op work permit will be provided only to students who are successful with their application into the work term option once semester 1 grades have been finalized.
