Program Details

The one-year graduate certificate in Applied Data Analytics prepares students to interpret trends by linking and presenting data in meaningful ways. As organizations increasingly rely on data for planning and decision-making, sophisticated data tools are used to handle extensive data collection and analysis.

This program provides deeper insights into data sets, revealing the story behind the information, and equips graduates with the skills needed to support real-world decision-making through data insights, management, and science. By mastering these techniques, graduates will be prepared to predict trends, understand customer needs, and make informed decisions in a high-demand field.

Experiential Learning

Capstone Project

Students will integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they gained throughout the program during a capstone project where they will research, plan and execute a project that meets a real-world financial, market or organizational need. Projects will emphasize the students’ expertise with data analysis, analytics, data science and business intelligence/big data tools.

Optional Work Term

Participating in the optional work term semester is an excellent way to build your professional network, explore career paths and apply in-class teachings to real work situations.

Students in the Applied Data Analytics graduate certificate program will be invited to apply to the optional work term semester during their first academic semester. Entrance to the optional work term is limited and the processes for securing a work term are competitive. Students who qualify for the optional work term semester will be eligible to complete a four-month, paid work term after academic semester 2.

Supports are available through the Experiential Learning Hub to assist students with securing their work terms. In addition, the Experiential Learning Hub is in contact with work term students and their employers during the work terms to help with any questions.

Administrative fee

Once transferred to the work term option of this program, students will have an administrative fee of $475 assessed to their accounts during the academic semester(s) prior to scheduled work term(s). The administrative fee goes to support the broad array of support services provided to work term students. These services are dedicated to support student success.

Co-op Work Permits

If you are an international student enrolled in the work term option, you must have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number in order to work in Canada. Documentation and instructions on how to apply for a co-op work permit will be provided only to students who are successful with their application into the work term option once semester 1 grades have been finalized.

    To help students have the best learning experience possible, Durham College’s IT Services department has identified technology recommendations for each program based on course needs and software requirements. While not required, students may want to consider these suggestions if they are purchasing a computer or laptop for the upcoming academic year.
