October is Women’s History Month Posted on October 14, 2021 at 3:24 pm. This month we want to highlight and celebrate the impact of women throughout Canadian history. Find resources on women like Kateri Tekakwitha, North America’s first First Nations saint, Hide Hyodo Shimizu, who was inducted into the Order of Canada for her efforts in educating Japanese-Canadian children in internment camps, Mary Ann Shadd, the first Black woman to publish a newspaper in North America, Angela James, the first openly gay athlete and second black athlete to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Edna Agnes Ekhivalak Elias, a residential school survivor and member of the Order of Canada for her effort to preserve Nunavut’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
