This course is an introduction to the civil engineering industry. Students learn about the basic building blocks of a career in civil engineering. Students will gain insights into professional ethics, socio-political, economic and technological challenges of engineering practice. Emphasis is on a problem solving approach using mathematical and calculator methods combined with equilibrium conditions, free body diagrams and sketches. This course lays the necessary foundation for more advanced civil engineering courses.
